Projects overview

Learn what a project is, how it is linked to an Innovation Opportunity, and where to find your projects in SolveNext Lab.

A project is the top-level container for your innovation work. It holds sprints, and each sprint holds sessions: Project > Sprint > Session. In SolveNext Lab every project is created together with an Innovation Opportunity, so the project and its opportunity are two views of the same initiative.

Why it matters

Projects connect the workshops you run (sprints and sessions) with the strategic tracking you do in the Leader view (portfolio, budget, hypotheses, small bets and the Next Cycle). Keeping both together lets you see what work was done for each opportunity.

Key concepts

  • One project, one opportunity. When you click Create opportunity, SolveNext Lab creates a project and its linked opportunity at the same time. They share the same name, challenge statement, objectives and dates.
  • Project details. A project has a Name (required), Challenge statement, Objectives, Start Date, End Date, Description, Budget and Responsible. When you create it you also choose a Portfolio and a Cycle for the opportunity.
  • Sprints. A project can contain any number of sprints. The project page lists them and has a Create sprint button.
  • Personal and team workspaces. Projects created in My Work are personal. Projects created in a team workspace belong to that team, and its members can open them.
  • Folders. You can group projects with New folder on the list page.

Where to find it

  1. Open the Leader view. If you are in the Instigator view, click Next Lab | Leader at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Use the workspace switcher, the narrow strip on the far left: click the My Work square for your personal workspace, or a team's square (marked with the team's initials) for that team.
  3. In the sidebar, under My work (or under the team's work section in a team workspace), click Innovation Opportunities. This list shows your projects. There is no separate "Projects" entry, and the Instigator sidebar does not show projects.

From the list:

  • Click a project's name to open its Innovation Opportunity page.
  • Use the ... menu on a row for Detail, Duplicate, Edit and Delete. In your personal workspace you can also choose Move to Team. In a team workspace, the creator of a project can choose Move to My Work.
  • Click Create opportunity to start a new project and opportunity.

The project page itself, with its sprints and the Share, Archive, Agenda and Create sprint buttons, opens from the search box in the Instigator header or from Shared with me.
