Innovation Opportunities overview

What Innovation Opportunities are, what each one contains, and where to find and manage them in the Leader area of SolveNext Lab.

An Innovation Opportunity is a strategic idea or initiative that you track through the Next Cycle. It is the main object of the Leader area (the Intelligent Innovation System, or IIS). Each opportunity is linked one-to-one to a project, so the workshop work you plan (sprints and sessions) and the strategic tracking (stages, budget, learning) stay connected.

Why it matters

Opportunities let you see, in one place, how far an idea has progressed, how much you have invested in it and how much you have actually learned. This helps you decide where to put more time and money and where to stop.

Key concepts

  • Name and details: the opportunity's name, Challenge statement, Objectives, Description, Start Date and Responsible come from its linked project.
  • Portfolio: the strategic bucket the opportunity belongs to: Unassigned, Maximize, Renew, Grow or Optimize.
  • Cycle, stage and step: where the opportunity is in the Next Cycle (Formulate, Incubate, Accelerate, Operate, Grow).
  • Assumptions vs Knowledge: a bar showing the share of untested (yellow), true (green) and false (red) hypotheses.
  • Budget and spendings: the amount allocated to the opportunity and the spendings you record against it.
  • Resources: files and links that give context to the opportunity and to the AI assistants.
  • Next Tools: AI tool runs linked to the opportunity.
  • AI Agent Suggestions: stored recommendations from the AI assistants.

Where to find it

  1. Switch to the context you want to work in (your personal workspace or a team workspace).
  2. In the Leader sidebar, click Innovation Opportunities to see the list of opportunities with their portfolio, last update and Assumptions vs Knowledge bar.
  3. Click an opportunity's name, or open the row menu and choose Detail, to open its page.

You can also open Portfolios in the sidebar and click a portfolio card to see the opportunities in that portfolio.

On the opportunity page, the three-dots menu at the top right contains Full report, Edit and Delete. Below the header you will find the Next Cycle bar, the Assumptions vs Knowledge section, the Budget card, the spending history, Next Tools, Resources and AI Agent Suggestions.

Access

The Innovation Opportunities list requires a Pro license or a team role. Editing or deleting an opportunity requires a Pro license. If you don't have one, you see an upgrade prompt instead.
