How to create an Innovation Opportunity

Create a new Innovation Opportunity from the Innovation Opportunities list, choosing its portfolio, budget and challenge details.

When you create an Innovation Opportunity, SolveNext Lab also creates the linked project for it and places the opportunity at the first step of the Next Cycle.

Before you start

  • You need a Pro license or a team role to open the Innovation Opportunities list.
  • Switch to the right context first. If you are in a team workspace, the opportunity belongs to that team. Otherwise, it belongs to your personal workspace.

Steps

  1. In the Leader sidebar, click Innovation Opportunities.
  2. Click Create opportunity at the top right of the list.
  3. In the Create innovation opportunities window, enter a Name. This field is required.
  4. Choose a Portfolio: Unassigned, Maximize, Renew, Grow or Optimize.
  5. If your workspace has more than one cycle, choose the Cycle. If there is only one, the Next Cycle is used automatically.
  6. Optionally fill in Budget, Challenge statement, Objectives, Start Date, Description and Responsible.
  7. Click Create opportunity.

The new opportunity appears in the list. It starts in the first stage (Formulate) at its first step (Vision and Purpose).

Tips

  • If the name is already used by another of your projects, the opportunity is not created and you see an error.
  • If you leave it in Unassigned, the budget features are hidden. To use them, edit the opportunity and choose another portfolio. See How to change the portfolio of an Innovation Opportunity.
  • No sprint is created automatically when you create an opportunity. To plan workshops, add sprints to the linked project.
