Portfolios and budget overview
How portfolios group your Innovation Opportunities and how the innovation budget is split across portfolios and opportunities.
Portfolios are strategic buckets that group your Innovation Opportunities. Together with the innovation budget, they show you how your investment is spread across different kinds of innovation.
Why it matters
A balanced portfolio prevents you from putting all your money into one type of bet. With portfolio budgets you can decide how much to invest in each strategy and compare that with what you have actually spent.
Key concepts
- Five standard portfolios: every user and every team gets Unassigned, Maximize, Renew, Grow and Optimize automatically. You cannot add or rename portfolios.
- Unassigned: a holding area for opportunities that are not categorized yet. It has no budget, and opportunities in it don't show the Budget card.
- Innovation budget: the total amount available for innovation in your personal workspace or in a team workspace.
- Portfolio budgets: the share of the innovation budget assigned to Maximize, Renew, Grow and Optimize. The percentage of each is calculated for you.
- Opportunity budget: the amount allocated to a single opportunity. In the edit form it cannot be more than its portfolio's budget.
- Spendings roll up: spendings recorded on an opportunity add up to the opportunity's actual spending, then to its portfolio's, and finally to the innovation budget's Spent amount. Unassigned opportunities are not counted in the innovation budget totals.
