Play Mode overview

Play Mode is the live view of a session: a shareable page with the agenda, drills, resources and posters you use to run the workshop.

Play Mode is the page you use to run a session live. It shows the session name, challenge statement, resources and full agenda in one place, and gives you a link you can share with participants so everyone follows the same page.

Why it matters

Planning happens on the session detail page; facilitation happens in Play Mode. When you open Play Mode, the app prepares what the session needs to run. For virtual and hybrid sessions it generates the virtual posters for each drill, based on the number of teams, duos and individuals in the session. Check those numbers, and the way each exercise is run, before you play.

Key concepts

  • Play link: every session has its own Play Mode URL. Anyone with the link can open it. Participants do not need a SolveNext Lab account.
  • Owner controls: if you are signed in and can edit the session, you also see the tools to share the link, send invites, edit session details and manage posters. Guests only see the session content.
  • Invites: you can email participants a calendar invite (an event.ics file) that links to the Play Mode page.
  • Session details: click Edit to change the start date, end date, time zone and the number of teams, individuals and duos without leaving Play Mode. Click Save to apply your changes.
  • Posters: for virtual sessions use Update virtual posters and Edit name. For in-person sessions use Print physical posters. Hybrid sessions show all three.
  • Reports: owners can click Generate Report, View Report or Regenerate Report for the session.
  • Template warning: if you play a session that belongs to a template, a WARNING message reminds you not to share that URL. It is only for checking that the template works.

Where to find it

  1. In the Instigator sidebar, click Sessions and open a session.
  2. Click Play at the top of the session page. You can also use Play in the ... menu next to the session name.
  3. Play Mode opens in a new browser tab.

At the top of the Play Mode page you will find the shareable link with a Copy Link button, the invite section with Send Invite and View sent invites, and the session details. The agenda is further down the page.

Play Mode works the same way in your personal workspace and in a team workspace.
